Prosocial Development, Self- Regulation and Empathy
Self- Regulation and Empathy
Prosocial self-regulation means managing your own emotions and behaviour in ways that respond to the needs of and benefit others. Peer group dynamics, such as caring vs. competitive atmospheres, can reduce or exaggerate prosocial stress. Adult expectations and modelling are key to enhancing or diminishing empathy.
This is the sixth module in a series of topics about self-regulation and its relationship with development.
